POP’s: identifying and sharing best practice

This project provided a morning workshop, and related materials focused on Publicly Owned Spaces (POPs) and the development of best practices for their management, especially in the context of high street regeneration. It explores principles of public space, such as public welcome, openness, unrestricted use, community focus, and good stewardship, and public space charters. The session also highlights the balance between order and disorder in public spaces, acknowledging the importance of both formal regulations and informal community activities, while discussing challenges related to inclusivity, safety, and the varying needs of diverse users. Ultimately, it seeks to create a framework for benchmarking, regulation and creating charters that ensure public spaces are vital, diverse, and well-managed, reflecting local community priorities and needs.

Area-Based Collaborative Enterprise (ABCE)

ABCE focused on area-based collaborative entrepreneurship in several European cities. It recognises the power of local entrepreneurs forming collectives to boost business, innovation, and overall urban appeal. The initiative sought to understand and promote this type of collaboration, aiming to influence local government policies by developing recommendations and sharing successful strategies across different European regions. Ultimately, the project aimed to foster urban regeneration, inclusive growth, and cooperation through policies that support local, collaborative enterprises and help them overcome challenges.
